Meow...Catfight is about to begin! The diva of 新闻, ex-MediaCorp and SPH MediaWorks主播张海洁 is back to read the news again on Channel 8 in February.
Years ago, I embarked on a campaign to rebrand 新闻主播 into 名星主播 (back in the ex-SPH MediaWork’s days).
The 1st batch of 新闻主播 I worked on (with top stylist David Gan’s input) was 张海洁, 王嬿青 and 林婉绯.
She wasn’t one of those artistes who made any effort to PR with everybody. I wouldn’t say she was arrogant. The job didn’t call for a news presenter to spend time to PR with everybody. She didn’t make life difficult for anyone. She kept a ‘safe distance’.
It was this ‘ice queen’ aura of hers that made her a star…
Later on, someone who worked with her closely on a very popular talkshow ‘Inside Out’ told me 海洁 can be a very ‘down-to-earth’ ‘char bo’. She even joined others in pooling money to buy 4Ds!
I am happy to welcome 海洁 back into this entertainment business. It is in need of a star or a diva to change the face of news reading once again. Whenever there’s a diva, there’ll be ‘catfight’ and ‘jealousy’ which are perfect ‘ingredients’ for an under-hyped news business.
Watch out 董素华, the fight for the Best News Presenter Award at this year’s Star Awards will be so much more fun with the return of the Queen…
